Description
Please look at the pictures in the gallery, these are apples that aren’t able to be sold via JA as they are seconds. They have scars, discoloured patches, sunburn, cracks and/ or dimples. I can attest that they still taste yummy!
Shinano Sweet are a cross between a Fuji and a Tsugaru which is itself a cross between a Golden Delicious and a Kogyoku which is a Jonathon. Phewwww apple genealogy is complicated! What this gets you though is an apple that’s moderately crunchy raw and cooks soft. It is not as sweet as a Fuji but definitely not tart by global standards.
These apples are grown by my neighbour Amelia. They are grown using traditional methods so have been sprayed numerous times throughout the year with fungicides and other chemicals. These are not organic in any way. However Amelia’s family does not use hormone sprays nor herbicides (just look at all those weeds around her trees! ) so these apples have lower contact with chemicals than many commercially grown apples.
Please note that apples have to be boxed and sent in apple boxes so can’t be combined with other products (other than herbs) and a separate postage charge will apply to each box.
